Patient Safety Translational Research Centre (PSTRC) PhD Network Forum
We would like to announce the first PSTRC PhD Network Forum taking place on the 5th of February, 2019. The event will bring together PhD students, researchers and theme leads from across the three PSTRCs (Yorkshire and Humber, Imperial and Greater Manchester) for a day of presentations and discussion. Attending the event will provide a brilliant opportunity for students to develop contacts across the PSTRC network and receive feedback and advice from experienced researchers.
Starting at 10am with registration and refreshments, we will begin the day with a welcome message to all. The student presentation sessions will then take the centrepiece of the day, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their projects whatever stage they are at. Chaired by a theme lead, students will give a 5-10 minute presentation to a panel of researchers who will be invited to provide constructive feedback. There will also be the opportunity for students to showcase their research via posters during a “networking lunch”. Prizes for the best posters will be provided.
After lunch, theme leads will deliver seminars on key issues in research, designed to be of maximum value to students as they develop a career in applied health research. Provisional topics are how early-career researchers can go about maximising the “impact” of their research, the importance of Public & Patient Involvement in research today, and the challenges of involving marginalised groups in research. Karen Fernando of NIHR will also deliver a seminar on opportunities for trainees, such as funding you can apply for and NIHR training events that may be available.
For students who want to attend: please make sure you have registered for the network. You can do this by emailing Dr Abigail Albutt at Yorkshire and Humber PSTRC and giving her permission to register you as a member. She will use your email address to send further information about the event and other news.
