The Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Translational Research Centre (PSTRC) is a national centre for patient safety research funded by the National Institute for Health Research. We are a partnership between Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Universities of Leeds and Bradford.

We would like to expland our group of Patient and Public Lay Leaders working within the Centre.

We aim to is to conduct research to make healthcare safer by developing and testing new ideas and innovations. The Patient and Public Lay Leader role will involve working with academics, healthcare professionals, patients, carers and the public to ensure we address the patient safety challenges being faced across healthcare sectors, now and in the future.

We currently concentrate on four research themes that recognise:

  1. The central role of patients and their carers
  2. The importance of creating workplaces that people want to work in
  3. The safe use of medicines as a priority across healthcare settings
  4. The exciting potential for digital technology to improve safety.

We are now seeking at least 2 new Lay leaders, with previous knowledge and experience of patient and public involvement within the healthcare setting, to join the research themes.  They will be actively involved in the research that is conducted. They will also act as a source of advice and support as we engage with wider communities in order to access diverse patient, carer and public views and opinions. The post will require a commitment of few hours a month (which may increase as needs require) and the post holder will be reimbursed for their time and expenses.

The  PSTRC group is a friendly, hard-working and enthusiastic team, which, due to it being located on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site, has real and lasting research relationships with both local and national clinicians. The group is housed within the new Wolfson Centre for Applied Health Research, part of the Bradford Institute for Health Research, with easy transport links to elsewhere in the region.
